Anna Winlund holds dual roles as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Swedish, Multilingualism and Language Technology and Assistant Senior Lecturer in the Unit for Subject Matter Education with specialization in Swedish at the University of Gothenburg. She holds a Master's and Doctorate in Swedish as a Second Language. Her research focuses on newly arrived youth with limited formal schooling, particularly their access to literacy practices in upper secondary language introduction programs. She teaches courses on second language development, newcomer learning, and multilingual literacy, and collaborates on a ULF project (2025-2026) investigating language introduction conditions.
Her education includes an Upper Secondary School Teaching Degree in Swedish, Swedish as a Second Language, and French. She has extensive teaching experience across adult education, secondary schools, SFI programs, and international lecturing at Charles University in Prague. Research interests include multilingual education, emergent literacy instruction, and critical approaches to second language teaching methodologies.
Key publications explore topics such as literacy brokers for immigrant adolescents, discursive constructions of illiteracy in truth commissions, and integrated language instruction in middle schools. Her work bridges sociolinguistics, educational policy, and practical pedagogy with a focus on marginalized student populations.
