Anna Vorhes serves as Instructor of Harp and Adjunct Instructor of Music at the School of Music Education. With over 25 years as principal harpist for the Sioux City Symphony (now retired from that position), she currently performs as interim principal and second harpist with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra (SDSO), alongside collaborations with numerous Midwest civic orchestras including Aberdeen, Huron, Watertown, Rapid City, Brookings, Fargo, and the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra.
Educational Background:
- Master of Music in Harp Performance, University of Arizona
- Bachelor of Arts in Music and Psychology, Macalester College
Her expertise centers on harp performance pedagogy and cross-cultural music education, teaching courses in Harp, Non-Western Music, and Sibelius-based Music Notation. As a South Dakota Arts Council touring artist for over a decade, she advanced regional arts accessibility while maintaining active membership in the American Harp Society and national certification through the Music Teachers National Association. She spearheads biennial harp ensemble concerts engaging 25-40 regional participants.
