Dr. Anna Ross is a Senior Lecturer in Modern European History at the University of Sheffield's School of History, Philosophy and Digital Humanities. Previously, she served as an Associate Professor at the University of Warwick. She holds a BA from the University of Sydney and advanced degrees (MPhil, PhD) from the University of Cambridge. Her research focuses on German and Central European history, emphasizing state-building, 1848 revolutions, empire, and post-WWI international zones. Current projects include studies on international territorial administration and the Maria Theresa Thaler currency. She co-edits the journal German History (OUP) and has received grants like the AHRC-funded 'Imperial Afterlives.'
Her work bridges political and urban history, with notable publications such as Beyond the Barricades (Oxford, 2019) and contributions to German History and Urban History. She actively engages in public history through podcasts (Historical Association, Massolit) and editorial roles. Research highlights include analyzing Prussian reforms post-1848 and exploring the global dimensions of 20th-century territorial governance.
