Anna Roberts is a Professor of Law at Brooklyn Law School, specializing in criminal law, criminal procedure, and evidence. She holds a B.A. and M.A. from the University of Cambridge (graduating first in her class in Classics) and a J.D. from NYU School of Law, where she was honored as a Dean’s Scholar and Florence Allen Scholar. Her research focuses on trial procedure, including peremptory challenges, prior conviction impeachment, and jury decision-making, with an emphasis on systemic biases and stereotypes.
Professor Roberts has received numerous awards, including the Dean’s Outstanding Teaching (2019), Scholarship (2020), and Service (2021) awards, and was appointed a Dean’s Research Scholar in 2025. Her scholarship has been featured in top-tier law reviews and cited in judicial opinions and briefs. She co-founded the Coalition for Prior Conviction Impeachment Reform and has testified before the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and Oregon legislative committees. Roberts previously practiced as a public defender with the Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem and clerked for Judge Constance Baker Motley in the Southern District of New York.
Her research explores how legal language shapes perceptions of guilt and justice, and she actively advocates for reforms to reduce implicit bias in the criminal justice system. She teaches Evidence, Criminal Law, and Criminal Procedure, and contributes to academic organizations like the AALS Evidence Section.
