Anna Rita Bacinello was a full professor of Mathematical Methods of Economics, Actuarial and Financial Sciences at the University of Trieste's Department of Economics, Business, Mathematics, and Statistics. She held this position since 1995, after joining the university as a researcher in 1981. Her academic career spanned multiple roles, including editorial board memberships in actuarial and financial mathematics journals, and she was a plenary speaker at international conferences. She served on the Scientific Committee of CISA, the Collegio Universitario di Merito 'Luciano Fonda', and the Consiglio di Reggenza della Banca d’Italia as a censor.
Her research focused on life insurance valuation, dynamic modeling of policyholder behavior, and stochastic mortality modeling, integrating mathematical finance with traditional actuarial methods. Her work emphasized elegance, generality, and flexibility in approach. She authored/co-authored numerous international publications and held visiting roles at universities worldwide.
Bacinello was recognized for her teaching excellence, both nationally and internationally, and was deeply admired for her dedication, simplicity, and willingness to share knowledge. Her sudden passing in September 2024 left a profound void in academic and professional communities.
