Anna Pegler-Gordon is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of History at Michigan State University (MSU), within the College of Social Science. Her research focuses on immigration, race, citizenship, and visual culture, with particular emphasis on Asian American history, U.S. racial dynamics, and global citizenship frameworks. She actively engages in K-12 education initiatives to integrate history and ethnic studies into curricula.
- Awarded the Theodore Saloutos Prize (2009) for her book In Sight of America.
- Recipient of MSU’s Teacher-Scholar Award and a Lilly Teaching Fellowship.
Her work bridges historical scholarship and public engagement, including a visiting research fellowship at the University of London and a national teaching residency in Japan. Recent publications analyze Japanese confinement on Ellis Island during WWII and the racial turn in U.S. ethnic studies.
Current projects include a second book on Asian immigrants at Ellis Island, extending her exploration of immigration policy and racialization.
