Dr. Anna Pechenkina is an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Political Science at Utah State University. Her research investigates bargaining obstacles in peace processes, with a focus on civilian agency in civil wars, belligerents' initiation of negotiations, and third-party mediation tactics.
Her methodological approach combines statistical analysis, survey experiments, and computational modeling to understand conflict dynamics. Research has appeared in leading journals including the Journal of Conflict Resolution, Journal of Peace Research, and International Studies Quarterly.
At USU, she teaches graduate and undergraduate courses including Introduction to Political Analysis, Ethnic Conflict and Cooperation, and International Security. She currently serves as an Associate Editor for International Studies Quarterly and has contributed policy commentary to Foreign Affairs.
