Caroline Brandt is a Post-Doctoral Researcher at Uppsala University's Department of Peace and Conflict Research. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley (2020). Previously, she held positions at the University of Southern California as a Post-Doctoral Fellow and at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID) in Geneva as a Gallatin Pre-Doctoral Fellow.
Her research focuses on civil wars, peace processes, and international intervention. She examines how governments use peace agreements strategically to counter rebel groups excluded from negotiations, particularly in multiparty civil conflicts. Her work also employs computational methods to analyze how domestic and international public opinion influences international intervention.
Her book manuscript explores the tactical use of peace agreements as counterinsurgency tools. Key themes include rebel fragmentation, international organizational influence on elections, and the impact of transnational affiliations (e.g., Boko Haram's allegiance to ISIS) on civilian behavior. Her research bridges conflict studies, political violence, and international relations.
