A.C. (Anna) Moles, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Mediterranean Archaeology and Human Osteoarchaeology at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Arts. She holds dual expertise in bioarchaeological analysis and Greek/Roman archaeological studies. Her primary affiliation is with the Archaeology department, where she directs the Human Osteoarchaeology Laboratory established in 2021. Moles' career includes roles as Assistant Director of the Irish Institute of Hellenic Studies at Athens (2019-2021) and postdoctoral research with the British School at Athens.
Education highlights include a PhD from University College London (2019), MSc in Human Osteoarchaeology from Edinburgh (2012), and MA in Ancient History from St Andrews (2011). Her research focuses on: 1) Social bioarchaeology of health and disease across Greek/Roman transitions, 2) Paleopathological analysis of skeletal remains, 3) Urbanization impacts on human biology, and 4) Dental anthropology in Mediterranean contexts. Current projects span Crete, the Netherlands, and Belize.
Teaching contributions include developing new osteoarchaeology courses, lab-based tutorials, and fieldwork internships at Groningen.
