Anna Michalski

Anna Michalski is Professor at the Department of Political Science (also referred to as Department of Government) at Uppsala University, Sweden, and holds a Visiting Professor position at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium. She serves as Senior Associate Senior Researcher at the Swedish Institute for International Affairs and chairs the Swedish Network for European Studies in Political Science while also being a member of the Swedish Network for Foreign Policy Analysis.

Professor Michalski's research spans international relations, European politics, and Nordic foreign policy with current projects focusing on EU-China relations, European diplomatic practices and socialization, Role Theory, changing foreign role conceptions of Nordic foreign and security policy, and Sweden's grand strategy. Her scholarship demonstrates consistent attention to how European states, particularly Nordic countries, navigate their positions within broader European and global contexts. She teaches courses in qualitative methods and international politics at Uppsala University and a specialized course on EU-China relations at the College of Europe.

Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong emphasis on EU foreign policy evolution, security studies, and international relations. Her work shows progression from examining European integration and enlargement to addressing contemporary challenges including geopolitical competition, border management in conflict environments, and the EU's evolving role as a global actor. Her scholarship increasingly addresses intersections between traditional security concerns and emerging challenges such as climate change and technological shifts.
