Dr. Anna Lindley is a Reader in Migration, Mobility and Development at SOAS University of London's Department of Development Studies, where she has served as BA Global Development Programme Convenor since 2021. Her research examines global migration dynamics with particular focus on diaspora remittances, immigration detention systems, refugee housing crises, and Somali displacement contexts.
Her educational background includes a BA from Oxford, MA from Leeds, DPhil from Oxford, and PGDip in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. She holds Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).
Lindley's research explores:
- Refugee protection systems and asylum accommodation challenges
- Transnational livelihoods and diaspora financial flows
- UK immigration regimes and detention practices
- Crisis-driven migration in the Somali regions
- Migrant civic mobilization and resistance movements
Her publications demonstrate consistent focus on migration governance challenges, particularly regarding refugee rights in institutional systems. Recent work examines pandemic impacts on migrant communities, access to justice in detention, and crisis remittance patterns.
Lindley has supervised multiple PhD students including researchers examining Ethiopian migrants in the UK, Ghanaian diaspora identities, and digital governance for migrants. Her research has been funded by ESRC, European Commission, Leverhulme Trust, and SOAS impact funds, supporting collaborations with UNDP, Oxfam, Bar Council of England and Wales, and refugee housing organizations.
She is an active member of SOAS's Centre for Migration and Diaspora Studies, contributing to policy engagement through reports on detention reform, refugee housing in Wales, and asylum accommodation challenges.
