Anna Kira Hippert is a Research Associate and PhD candidate at Ruhr University Bochum's Graduate School RePliV. She is affiliated with the Center for Religious Studies (CERES) and the CRC 1475 „Metaphors of Religion“. Her PhD research examines the role of visual media in shaping the image of New Religious Movements (NRMs) in Germany and the USA. She holds an MA in Religious Studies with a focus on systematic religious studies and a dual BA in Art History and Religious Studies.
Her research interests include material religion, image theory, religion and media, American religion, and methods in religious studies. She has conducted fieldwork in the USA on NRMs such as the Church of Scientology and Cowboy Churches. Hippert is also active in science communication through media appearances, podcasts, and social media.
She has taught courses on religious studies, new religious movements, and media engagement. Her work bridges academic research and public discourse, with notable contributions to projects like the Religion Media Centre and collaborations with institutions like INFORM (King's College London).
