Anna Kira Hippert is a Lecturer and doctoral student at the RePliV Research College, affiliated with Ruhr University Bochum's Center for Religious Studies (CERES). Her research focuses on visual media's role in shaping the image of new religious movements, with a comparative analysis of Germany and the USA. She holds a Master of Arts in Religious Studies and a dual Bachelor's in Art History and Religious Studies from Ruhr University.
Her teaching includes courses on religious media communication, new religious movements, and religion in popular culture. She has published widely on topics like the Raelian Movement, Cowboy Church Movement, and the intersection of religion and media. Awards include PROMOS and RUB Research School fellowships.
Hippert actively engages in science communication via podcasts, radio features, and YouTube, addressing topics like Scientology and gaming's religious dimensions. She is a member of the American Academy of Religion and serves as the Chair of REMID e.V., a religious media information service.
