Beyhan Bozkurt is a Research Associate and PhD Student at the Graduate School RePliV at Ruhr-Universität Bochum. She is affiliated with the Center for Religious Studies and the CERES Early Career Researchers' Program. Her PhD project explores pastoral practices and the construction of social suffering, focusing on monotheistic pastoral care in Germany through a socio-psychological lens.
Education:
- Master's in Clinical Psychology (International Psychoanalytic University Berlin) — Thesis: "The psychoanalytic content of ṣabr: Investigation of an Islamic concept"
- Bachelor's in Clinical Psychology (International Psychoanalytic University Berlin) — Thesis: "Comparison and critique of Sigmund Freud's and Erich Fromm's interpretations of religion"
- Certified Nutritionist and Personal Trainer
Research Interests: Psychoanalytic subject theory, religious psychology, clinical psychology, social psychology, migration and health, and the intersection of faith and mental health.
Advising & Grants: Supervised by Prof. Dr. Jürgen Straub and Prof. Dr. Phil C. Langer. Previously involved in projects like REST (responding to staff care needs in fragile contexts) and the Erich Fromm Study Center conference organization.
Labs/Teams: Active in RePliV and CERES networks, focusing on religious pluralism and socio-cultural dynamics.
