Dr Anna Judson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Classics & Ancient History at Durham University, specializing in the Linear B writing system of prehistoric Greece (c.1400-1200 BCE). She holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge (2016) and has held fellowships at Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge (2016–2020) and the British School at Athens (2020–2022). Her research focuses on Mycenaean scribal practices, administrative systems, and the intersection of education and digital humanities. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Authority and actively contributes to Wikipedia editing initiatives through the Women's Classical Committee (#WCCWiki).
Key research areas include: Linear B palaeography, Mycenaean linguistics, experimental archaeology of clay tablet production, and pedagogical strategies for classical languages. She has published extensively on orthographic variation, scribal training, and the socio-historical context of Mycenaean administrative records. Her recent work explores the chronology of Linear A/B scripts and the material culture of writing in Bronze Age Greece.
Judson teaches classical Greek/Latin, the history of writing systems, and leads outreach activities including workshops on creating Linear B tablets. She has received EU Horizon 2020 funding for her ‘Writing at Pylos’ project and maintains a blog, 'It’s All Greek To Me', discussing archaeology, linguistics, and public engagement.
