Anna Heenan is a University Assistant Professor in Family Law at the University of Cambridge's Faculty of Law and a Fellow at Fitzwilliam College. Her research focuses on the financial implications of relationship dissolution, particularly how economic arrangements intersect with childcare responsibilities post-separation. She has conducted comparative studies across jurisdictions including Sweden, the Netherlands, and England/Wales, and published extensively on topics such as neoliberalism's impact on family law, pension sharing, and judicial reform.
Previously a practicing solicitor, she now contributes to law reform through her editorial role at Journal of Social Welfare and Family Law. Her work bridges legal theory and practice, emphasizing the devaluation of care work within family law frameworks. She collaborated on Family Law Concentrate, a widely used revision guide, and has held visiting research positions at the University of Uppsala.
Her recent publications analyze 'Haley v Haley' arbitration trends, financial remedy reforms, and the evolving meaning of marriage in asset division contexts. She engages with both doctrinal and socio-legal methodologies to address gaps between legal principles and real-world outcomes for separating families.
