Anna Gibson is an Assistant Teaching Professor and Coordinator of the Introduction to Humanities & Social Sciences program at North Carolina State University's Department of English. She specializes in Victorian literature, narrative form, and digital humanities. Her research explores the relationship between Victorian novel form and modern psychological theories, co-directing the Digital Dickens Notes Project—an interactive platform analyzing Charles Dickens' working notes. She holds a Ph.D. from Duke University (2014) and an M.A. from Exeter University (2006). Dr. Gibson is recognized for her teaching excellence, including induction into NC State's Academy of Outstanding Teachers (2023) and multiple teaching awards. She actively collaborates with DELTA to integrate social annotation tools like Perusall into pedagogy, enhancing student engagement in online and hybrid courses. Her work also focuses on student wellness and academic transition support through the HSS 120 introductory course.
Research interests include the Victorian novel’s impact on psychological discourse, serial publication practices, and the application of digital tools to literary analysis. She has presented widely at conferences such as NAVSA and the Victorians Institute, addressing topics like Dickens’ creative process and anti-racist teaching strategies. Upcoming projects include monographs on Dickens’ seriality and the role of novel form in shaping psychological thought.
Her service roles include advisory positions with the North American Victorian Studies Association and former membership on the Dickens Society Board. She advocates for interdisciplinary collaboration, evidenced by co-authored publications and panel discussions on AI in education and mental health support for students.
