Dr. Lisa Surridge is a Professor in the Department of English at the University of Victoria. Her research focuses on Victorian fiction and culture, particularly illustrated serial fiction, and she teaches legal writing to legal professionals across Canada. She holds a BA from Queen's University, and MA and PhD from the University of Toronto. Dr. Surridge has been recognized for her contributions, winning the 2009 Faculty of Humanities Teaching Award and the 2008 Faculty of Humanities Award for Research Excellence. Her work explores intersections between literature, visual culture, and social history, as seen in her analyses of marital violence in Victorian fiction and the narrative role of illustrations in serial novels. She has authored and edited several influential books, including *Bleak Houses* (2005) and *The Plot Thickens* (2018), and her articles appear in journals like *Victorian Studies* and *Dickens Studies Annual*. Her research emphasizes how Victorian readers engaged with text and image in serialized formats, reshaping understanding of narrative structure and cultural context.
