Dr. Anna Gannon is an Affiliated Lecturer in the Department of History of Art at the University of Cambridge and Fellow Emerita of St Edmund’s College. She serves as Director of Studies in History of Art for St Edmund’s College. Her research focuses on Anglo-Saxon numismatics, Germanic and Insular art, and the intersection of Christianity with pre-existing cultural practices in early medieval Europe. She is a contributor to the Visual Commentary on Scripture (King’s College, London) and participates in an Italo-Irish research group studying early Irish reliquaries in Italy. Current projects include exploring exegesis of sacred landscapes through olfactory perception and editing early medieval papers.
- Education: MA and PhD (Cantab) in History of Art; Dottore in Lingue e Letterature Straniere from Università Cattolica, Milan.
Her work bridges art history, archaeology, and theology, with special attention to material culture’s role in religious and cultural transmission. She has collaborated with institutions like the Van Abbemuseum and the Cambridge Courtauld Russian Art Centre. Awards include Fellowships from the Society of Antiquaries and the Higher Education Academy.
