Dr. Melanie C. Maddox is an Associate Professor in The Citadel's Department of History, part of the School of Humanities & Social Sciences. She earned dual B.A. degrees in History and Art History from the University of California, Riverside, followed by a Ph.D. in Medieval History from the University of St. Andrews. Her research focuses on early medieval Irish and British ecclesiastical concepts of the civitas, monastic-secular authority dynamics, and women’s roles in medieval governance.
