Anna Bratt is an Associate Professor and Lecturer in Psychology at the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, Linnaeus University. She serves as Deputy Head of the Department of Psychology and is actively involved in research on mental health, aging, and LGBTQ+ issues. Her work focuses on developing interventions to improve healthcare for vulnerable populations, particularly older adults and gender-diverse individuals.
Dr. Bratt's primary research interests include mental health and well-being, with special focus on aging populations and LGBTQ+ communities. Her work examines protective factors and effective interventions to improve health outcomes using diverse methodologies such as diaries, interviews, and questionnaires. She leads the EIR project investigating internet-based stress management courses for healthcare personnel and the FLORIS project addressing inclusion and equal treatment for older LGBTQ+ individuals. Her research bridges clinical psychology with practical healthcare applications, emphasizing compassion-focused approaches and culturally sensitive interventions.
Her recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on gender identity development across the lifespan, from early childhood through older adulthood. She has conducted significant cross-cultural research comparing Swedish and Japanese experiences of gender diversity. Her work on self-compassion scales has contributed to validated measurement tools in Swedish contexts. The research shows consistent themes of minority stress, resilience factors, and the importance of social support systems across different demographic groups.
Dr. Bratt actively supervises doctoral students including Kristiina Tyni (researching gender-creative identities in children 4-17 years), Ida Olsson (studying moral stress in healthcare personnel), and Emma Bergström (investigating interactive reading for infants). She collaborates extensively with Växjö municipality, Kronoberg Region, and international partners in Japan. She is also a member of Linnaeus University's steering group for systematic work on equal conditions and the working group for sustainable development.
