Anna Aghathangelou is a Professor in the Department of Politics at York University and a Faculty Associate at the York Centre for Asian Research. She co-directs the Global Change Institute in Cyprus and was a visiting fellow at Harvard University's Program on Science, Technology and Society (2014–15).
Her research integrates international relations, feminist political economy, and decolonial thought with expertise in time/temporality studies, critical security, and race/gender dynamics. She examines sexual violence, displaced populations, and missing persons in post-conflict contexts—particularly Cyprus—while addressing governance failures during financial crises and EU-peripheral power relations. Her work bridges political ecology, body politics, and decolonial poetics to challenge Western-centric frameworks in global politics.
Currently leading two SSHRC-funded multinational projects on sexual violence/human security and biotechnology governance, she collaborates across institutions through the Global Change Institute. Her research emphasizes embodied experiences in conflict zones and develops alternative temporalities for understanding global political transformation beyond Eurocentric models.
