Ann Tso

Ann Tso is a Lecturer in the Department of English at Kwantlen Polytechnic University and an Affiliated Researcher at Åbo Akademi University. Her academic journey includes a BA First Class Hons from Hong Kong Baptist University, an MA from the University of Victoria (UVic), and a PhD from McMaster University.

Her research explores narrative theory, literary urbanism, and contemporary literature, with a focus on horror and Hong Kong literature. She analyzes urban environments through lenses like apocalyptic motifs, fragmentary aesthetics, and sensory representations of crisis.

Her recent publications address themes such as Stephen King’s America (2024), J.G. Ballard’s Concrete Island (2021), and Neo-Victorian reinterpretations (2018). Upcoming work includes guest-editing a special issue titled Apocalyptic Legacies (December 2024) and a chapter on Reporting Hong Kong’s 2019 Crisis in Cities Under Stress (forthcoming 2024).

Her current projects investigate resonance in crisis narratives and tactile descriptions of urban hostility. She contributes to interdisciplinary dialogues on literary journalism and urban studies.
