Ann Marie Swart is a Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology at the University of East Anglia (UEA) and holds the role of Honorary Professorial Fellow in the Norwich Medical School. She is the Director of the Norwich Clinical Trials Unit and has affiliations with UEA's Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health and Health Services and Primary Care groups. Her career spans over three decades, including roles at the MRC Clinical Trials Unit, Eli Lilly, and UCL.
Education: MB BS (University of London, 1985), MRCP(UK) (1989), MSc in Epidemiology (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, 1993).
Research focuses on designing practice-changing clinical trials across therapeutic areas, particularly in oncology (e.g., ovarian cancer trials like ICON6/ICON7) and drug safety (e.g., NSAIDs, pharmacovigilance). Recent projects include trials on post-stroke emotionalism (EASE), dementia care (Social Prescribing), and antibiotic stewardship (INHALE WP3).
Teaching includes supervising an MD Res student at UCL and contributing to MBBS and postgraduate programs at UEA. She emphasizes training clinical and non-clinical staff in academic trials.
Key administrative responsibilities include leading the Norwich Clinical Trials Unit and collaborating internationally through initiatives like the National Cancer Research Institute.
