Ann L. Hackman, MD, is a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She serves as Division Director of Community Psychiatry, Medical Director of the University of Maryland’s Programs of Assertive Community Treatment (PACT), and Senior Psychiatrist for the RA1SE program. Her roles also include Senior Education Consultant and leadership in medical student teaching. She completed her psychiatry residency at the University of Maryland in 1994, holds board certifications in psychiatry with added qualifications in forensic psychiatry and addiction psychiatry.

Research & Clinical Focus: Dr. Hackman’s work centers on schizophrenia, first-episode psychosis, and underserved populations, particularly those experiencing homelessness. She is a leading advocate for assertive community treatment (ACT) models and improving access to care for vulnerable groups. Her research explores patient satisfaction, healthcare utilization, and interventions to reduce disparities in mental health outcomes.
Highlighted Contributions: Dr. Hackman has authored over 30 peer-reviewed articles on topics including physical wellness in mental health, HIV/hepatitis testing, and the role of technology in patient care. She has also been instrumental in developing programs like RA1SE, which focuses on early intervention for schizophrenia.
