Ann Fajilan, M.F.A., is a Professor in the Department of Theatre & Dance at California State University, East Bay (CSUEB). Her career focuses on Social Justice Theatre, Multicultural Theatre, and community-engaged performances. Previously, she worked at the City College of San Francisco, producing the Festival of American Playwrights of Color series. At CSUEB, she has directed and produced works addressing social issues like police brutality, migration, and colonialism, including CSU Ferguson and Almond Eyes, Secrets Exposed. She also leads initiatives like the Pilipinix Consciousness Night, dramatizing Filipino oral histories through the Legacy Project.
Her teaching spans courses such as Theatre for Social Justice and Solo Theatre, alongside advising clubs focused on social justice advocacy. Recognitions include the Kennedy Center’s Citizen Artist Award and being named one of the 100 Most Influential Filipinas in the U.S. She co-founded the US in the U.S. ensemble, using theatre to advance inclusive social change, with upcoming works like What Had Happened Was....
Her research emphasizes Filipino cultural identity, labor history, and intersectional storytelling. Current projects include Queen, Queers and Queer Queens, aiming to amplify marginalized voices through performance.
