Elaine Romero

Elaine Romero is an Associate Professor at the University of Arizona's School of Theatre, Film and Television and a faculty member in the Applied Intercultural Arts Research Graduate Interdisciplinary Program (GIDP). She holds an MFA from the University of California, Davis, and a BA from Linfield College. As a playwright and educator, she focuses on intercultural storytelling, social justice themes, and border narratives in theatre and film.

Her research interests span playwriting, bilingual theatre, Latino cultural studies, and the intersection of art with sociopolitical commentary. She specializes in creating works that explore immigration, identity, and historical memory, particularly through her U.S. at War trilogy and Arizona/Mexican border-themed plays.

Elaine has received prestigious awards including the Arizona Commission on the Arts Playwriting Fellowship, TCG/Pew National Theatre Artist Residency, and NEA grants. She is recognized for her contributions to Latina/o theatre and her groundbreaking bilingual publications.
