Dr. Duerr's research pioneers multidisciplinary approaches to HIV prevention and treatment in resource-constrained environments, with concentrated focus on sexual transmission dynamics, acute infection impacts, and antiretroviral therapy optimization among marginalized populations including transgender communities in Peru. Her methodology integrates sexual-network analysis, cost-effectiveness modeling, and laboratory investigations of HIV reservoirs and inflammation.
She directs the University of Washington's Strategic Analysis, Research & Training Center, delivering research consulting to the Gates Foundation and WHO through graduate student-led teams. Current initiatives address UNAIDS 90-90-90 target achievement, HIV transmission interruption among high-risk groups, and early ART intervention strategies amid substance use.
