معرفی
Dr. Ann Carias is a Research Professor in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, specializing in HIV-1 transmission mechanisms, mucosal immunology, and microbiome research.
- Education: BS/BA in Biology and Anthropology (2004), BA in Chemistry (2005) from UNC Charlotte; PhD in Immunology (2013) from Northwestern University; MS in Microbiology (2018) from University of Florida.
Research Interests: Her work focuses on understanding how HIV-1 crosses mucosal barriers, particularly through transcytosis in the female reproductive tract, and investigating how vaginal microbiome dysbiosis affects immune responses and HIV transmission risk. She also explores antibody-based therapies to prevent viral dissemination using advanced imaging techniques.
Publication Trends: Recent studies analyze: (1) HIV-1 replication inhibition through dNTP biosynthesis blockade, (2) epithelial transcytosis mechanisms in viral entry, (3) microbiome-immunoglobulin correlations in mucus, and (4) monoclonal antibody efficacy in rectal exposure models, reflecting her expertise in HIV immunology and translational microbiome research.
Laboratory Affiliation: Simpson Querrey Biomedical Research Center (SQBRC), contributing to the Center for Reproductive Science through studies on mucosal immunity in reproductive health contexts.
