Northwestern Universityمعرفی
Ann C. Gunter is a Professor and Bertha and Max Dressler Professor in the Humanities at Northwestern University's Department of Art History. She specializes in pre-Islamic Middle Eastern and Eastern Mediterranean visual/material culture, focusing on cultural interaction between the Mediterranean and Near East, material culture's role in identity formation, and modern reception of ancient art. Her work bridges archaeology, art history, and interdisciplinary cultural studies.
Her research includes excavated materials from sites like Gordion (Turkey) and Labraunda, emphasizing fieldwork's role in understanding ancient societies. She has authored/co-authored key texts like *Greek Art and the Orient* (2009) and edited volumes on topics such as the legacy of Ernst Herzfeld and Near Eastern art history.
Gunter serves on editorial boards for *Classica et Orientalia* and the *State Archives of Assyria Bulletin*, and chairs the Melammu Project, an international initiative studying Mesopotamian cultural heritage. Her recent work examines Iron Age networks and challenges traditional 'Orientalizing' paradigms in Mediterranean studies.
