Anke Scheeren

Anke Scheeren is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, specializing in Clinical Developmental Psychology. She is affiliated with the APH - Mental Health department and contributes to the Netherlands Autism Register (NAR). Her research focuses on autism, social behavior, social cognition, and wellbeing, aiming to improve support for autistic individuals through empirical research.

Her work includes cross-cultural studies on autism outcomes in China, Malaysia, and the Netherlands, emphasizing community integration, psychosocial factors, and assessment tools. She has collaborated on projects analyzing school participation of autistic youths and sensory processing in Autism Spectrum Disorder. Scheeren has presented on topics like empathy in autism and self-presentation skills in children with autism since the mid-2000s.

Current courses include teaching Ontwikkeling en Psychopathologie and co-managing the Autism Research Project. She contributed to two completed research projects focused on longitudinal outcomes for autistic individuals and improving phenotyping in ASD.
