Dr. Anka Vujanovic is a Professor in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Texas A&M University and holds a joint appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Texas A&M School of Medicine. She directs the Trauma and Stress Studies Center and the First Responder Consortium, and is a Research Professor at the University of Houston's Department of Psychology. With a Ph.D. from the University of Vermont and clinical training from Brown University, her research focuses on PTSD, substance use disorders (SUD), suicide risk, and trauma interventions, particularly among first responders, military veterans, and survivors of human trafficking.
Her work integrates longitudinal studies, clinical trials, and ecological momentary assessment to develop evidence-based treatments. She has authored over 250 publications and secures funding from NIH and private foundations. Dr. Vujanovic leads editorial roles in journals including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Mindfulness. Her research emphasizes transdiagnostic approaches, including mindfulness-based interventions for firefighters and culturally adapted treatments for global trauma survivors.
Key affiliations include Texas A&M’s clinical training programs and the First Responder Consortium. Her grants support projects on telemental health for trafficking survivors and trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapies. Current initiatives explore firearm safety among emergency personnel and resilience-building programs for high-risk populations.
