Ms Anjana Rai is a sessional academic and public health researcher at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), affiliated with the School of Public Health and Social Work. Her work focuses on maternal, child, and adolescent nutrition, with a particular emphasis on social determinants of health and longitudinal research approaches. She holds a PhD, MSc, and BSc in Public Health and has contributed to policy development for organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO), World Food Programme (WFP), and Nepal’s Department of Health Services. Currently, she consults for the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) on childhood wasting and conducts nutrition research in Nepal, Bangladesh, Kenya, and Australia. Rai is also involved in teaching epidemiology and public health nutrition at QUT, including a guest lecture in the XNH350 unit.
Her research interests include health equity, social science methodologies in public health, co-design approaches, and life-course perspectives. Recent publications highlight disparities in anaemia among adolescent girls in Nepal, factors influencing child feeding practices in Himalayan regions, and the impact of early marriage on pregnancy experiences in South Asia. Rai is affiliated with professional bodies such as the International Epidemiological Association (IEA), Australasian Epidemiological Association (AEA), and the Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA).
