Anja Fischer

Anja Fischer is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Vienna's Institute for Cultural and Social Anthropology, Faculty of Social Sciences. Her research focuses on the Sahara, particularly the Imuhar (Tuareg) society, with expertise in linguistic anthropology, nomadic mobility strategies, and the anthropology of work and architecture.

Her fieldwork in the Central Sahara since the early 2000s, conducted entirely in Tamasheq, includes extended stays with Tuareg nomads until 2011 and recent ethnographic research on traders in West Africa. She has also worked as a consultant for the UNHCR.
