Anja Bandau

Prof. Dr. Anja Bandau is a faculty member at the Romanesque Seminar, Leibniz University Hannover, where she holds the Chair of Literary and Cultural Studies. She is also the Head of Department and Spokesperson for the DFG-funded TransExil research group, which examines transnational networks in post-revolutionary Mexico (1920-1960). Her research spans transnational and postcolonial literary studies, focusing on the Caribbean, Americas, and transatlantic knowledge exchange.

• Key research axes include Afro-descendent and Mexican-American literatures, representations of the Haitian Revolution, and postcolonial violence.
• She leads Subproject 1 of TransExil: Visions of Heterogeneity between Indo- and African America, analyzing interactions between exiles and Mexican intellectuals.
• As Chair of the Audit Committee and Examination Board member, she contributes to institutional governance.

Her work intersects with interdisciplinary collaborations, such as the Center for Atlantic and Global Studies, and she has organized international symposia on topics like cultural mediators in exile and transatlantic narratives.
