Anita Ramasastry is the Henry M. Jackson Professor of Law and Director of the Sustainable International Development Graduate Program at the University of Washington School of Law. She is globally recognized as a pioneer in business and human rights, anti-corruption law, and sustainable development. Her expertise spans international law, comparative law, and corporate accountability.
She currently serves as a commissioner on the Global Commission on Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking and as a legal advisor to the UN Human Rights Council’s negotiations on business and human rights treaties and private security regulation. From 2016–2022, she was a member of the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights, chairing it in 2020. Her recent roles include Special Representative on Combatting Corruption at the OSCE (2020–2024) and Ambassador of the World Justice Project’s Rule of Law Leadership Council.
Research Trends across her published work focus on corporate liability for human rights abuses, anti-corruption mechanisms, and legal frameworks for sustainable business. Her scholarship bridges international criminal law, comparative corporate governance, and technology-driven legal challenges.

Her advising roles include founding Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Business and Human Rights Journal, board member of the Global Business and Human Rights Scholars Association, and architect of its annual research forum. She has advised the World Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and U.S. Department of Commerce, and was President of the Uniform Law Commission (2017–2019).
