Anisava Miltenova

Assoc. Prof. Anisava Miltenova, DSc, is affiliated with Sofia University’s Faculty of Slavic Philology and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS). She holds dual roles as Senior Research Fellow at BAS’s Institute for Literature and an honorary associate professor across multiple universities. Her career spans over four decades, specializing in medieval Bulgarian literature, manuscript digitization, and computational analysis of Slavic texts.

• Education: Sofia University (Bulgarian & English Philology, 1974), with postgraduate studies in Moscow, Vienna, and Pittsburgh.

Her research focuses on medieval manuscripts’ structure, apocryphal literature, and digital humanities applications. She pioneered projects like the Computer Processing of Medieval Slavic Manuscripts (1994, IREX-funded) and UNESCO-supported initiatives for Slavic textual archives. She leads the Section for Old Bulgarian Literature at BAS and coordinates international collaborative research networks.

Key achievements include the 2009 Pythagoras Award and leadership roles in academic councils such as the Bulgarian Studies Council at BAS and the New Bulgarian University’s Department of Bulgarian Studies.
