Anirban Maitra is a Professor of Pathology and Translational Molecular Pathology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he also serves as Scientific Director of the Sheikh Ahmed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Center for Pancreatic Cancer Research and Deputy Division Head for Academic Science in the Division of Pathology/Lab Medicine.
His research focuses on the genetics and molecular pathology of pancreatic cancer and its precursor lesions, utilizing both human studies and mouse models. He is deeply committed to translational research aimed at improving patient survival through early detection and cancer interception strategies.
Dr. Maitra leads an NCI-funded laboratory and has been a key leader in major collaborative initiatives such as those funded by Stand-Up-To-Cancer/AACR. His work bridges basic science with clinical application, emphasizing the implementation of research findings into real-world oncology practice.
He has trained over three dozen postdoctoral fellows and graduate students, many of whom now hold independent faculty positions across the United States and globally. His leadership extends to programmatic research efforts and academic mentorship within one of the nation's leading cancer centers.
Dr. Maitra is affiliated with the Department of Anatomical Pathology within the Division of Pathology/Lab Medicine, a hub for cutting-edge diagnostic and research activities in cancer pathology. His lab is central to advancing understanding and treatment of pancreatic neoplasia.
