Roles & Affiliations: Anil Pradhan is a Professor in the Department of Astronomy at The Ohio State University (OSU), affiliated with the Chemical Physics Program and Interdisciplinary Biophysics Graduate Program. He co-founded the Indo-US Center for STEM Education and Research. His primary roles include theoretical astrophysics research and STEM education initiatives.
- Member of faculty since 1989.
- Co-author of Atomic Astrophysics and Spectroscopy (Cambridge University Press, 2011).
- Leader of interdisciplinary projects: The Opacity Project (OP), Iron Project, and biomedical nanospectroscopy research.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Physics and Astronomy, University of London (1977)
- M.Sc. in Physics, University of Windsor (1973)
- B.Sc. (Hons.) in Physics, University of Windsor (1972)
Research Interests: Focus on atomic structure, plasma opacities, and X-ray spectroscopy with applications in astrophysics and biomedicine. His work bridges physics and astronomy, including studies of stellar interiors, exoplanetary biosignatures, and resonant nano-plasma theranostics for cancer treatment.
STEM Education: Pioneered the U.S.-India STEM Faculty Training Program, a dual-degree initiative with Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). This program trains Indian graduate students in STEM disciplines and pedagogy.
Labs & Collaborations: Leads the OSU-NORAD database for atomic radiative data and the Ohio Supercomputer Center’s opacity platforms. Collaborates internationally on projects like the Indo-US Nanobiophysics initiative and IEEE plasma science conferences.
