University of Texas Southwestern Medical Centerمعرفی
Anil Agarwal, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, affiliated with the Division of Endocrinology. He joined the faculty in 1994 as a Research Instructor, advancing to Professor by 2012. His research focuses on steroid metabolism, lipodystrophy mechanisms, and genetic disorders, particularly congenital generalized lipodystrophy (CGL) and mandibuloacral dysplasia. Agarwal’s work has identified key genes like AGPAT2 and ZMPSTE24 as critical in lipid storage and metabolic pathways.
Education: B.Sc. in Zoology/Chemistry/Botany (University of Allahabad), M.Sc. in Biochemistry (Kanpur University), Ph.D. in Biochemistry (Kanpur University). Postdoctoral fellowships at the Rockefeller University and Central Drug Research Institute.
Research Interests:
- Lipodystrophy pathogenesis and genetic causes
- Role of AGPAT2 in adipogenesis and metabolic disorders
- Molecular mechanisms of insulin resistance
- Progeroid syndromes and laminopathies
- Enzymatic pathways in lipid metabolism
Publications reflect a focus on lipid metabolism, genetic syndromes, and endocrine disorders. Notable contributions include identifying AGPAT2 mutations in CGL and ZMPSTE24 mutations in mandibuloacral dysplasia.
Affiliations: Member of the Endocrine Society and American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Leads the Agarwal Lab, exploring steroid metabolism and lipodystrophy mechanisms.
