Professor David Savage is a Principal Investigator at the Institute of Metabolic Science, University of Cambridge, affiliated with the Department of Clinical Biochemistry. His research focuses on unraveling the complexity of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes through human genetic studies and translational approaches.
- Key Affiliations:
- Institute of Metabolic Science, University of Cambridge
- Wellcome Trust Senior Clinical Fellow
- MRC Metabolic Diseases Unit
- Cambridge BRC
His work has identified novel genetic causes of lipodystrophies, rare disorders linked to metabolic syndrome, and highlighted interspecies differences in insulin resistance models. Collaborations with the MRC Epidemiology Unit have demonstrated the prevalence of subtle lipodystrophy in human insulin resistance. Current studies explore mitochondrial fusion, phosphatidylcholine synthesis, and the physiological impacts of calorie restriction.
- Scientific Awards:
- Wellcome Trust Senior Clinical Fellow
Professor Savage leads a research team including PhD students Lucy Davis and Mandour Omer, alongside postdoctoral fellows and research associates. His group investigates the cell biological roles of proteins involved in energy storage and metabolic regulation.
