Alison Sleigh is a Research Fellow at the Wolfson Brain Imaging Centre (WBIC) within the Department of Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Cambridge. She is affiliated with the NIHR Cambridge Clinical Research Facility and the Wellcome-MRC Institute of Metabolic Science, focusing on advanced magnetic resonance spectroscopy applications in metabolic research since 2003.
- Primary Affiliation: Wolfson Brain Imaging Centre, University of Cambridge
- Collaborative Units: NIHR Cambridge Clinical Research Facility, Wellcome-MRC Institute of Metabolic Science
- Academic Role: Group Leader / Principal Research Associate
Research Interests center on developing novel magnetic resonance spectroscopy techniques to study:
- Mitochondrial function via PCr kinetics post-exercise
- Insulin resistance mechanisms through lipid accumulation analysis
- Visceral/subcutaneous fat distribution dynamics
- Intramyocellular/hepatic lipid quantification
- 1H, 31P, 13C, and 2H spectroscopy development
Her work bridges metabolic diseases, neuroimaging, and advanced MR methodologies, with recent publications examining lipid saturation effects, mitochondrial energetics, and metabolic flux regulation. Collaborations span institutions in the UK and Switzerland, emphasizing cross-disciplinary metabolic investigations.
