Dr. Anika N. Haque is an Associate Professor in Human Geography and Environment at the University of York's Department of Environment and Geography. Previously, she held research and academic positions at the University of Cambridge (Research Fellow, 2018–2022), University of Oxford (Visiting Academic), and University of Kent (Lecturer in Human Geography). Her interdisciplinary research integrates urban inequality, climate resilience, gender vulnerability, and energy transitions in the Global South.
Research Interests: Dr. Haque's work employs systems thinking to address Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 11, 13, 5, 7, and 10. Her three interconnected strands focus on: (1) Political ecology/economy of climate adaptation in marginalized urban communities; (2) Gendered vulnerability to climate risks; and (3) Equitable energy transitions in developing contexts. Fieldwork spans Bangladesh, India, South Africa, Kenya, Malawi, and Zambia.
Publications & Research Trends: Her 14 most recent articles (2010–2025) analyze urban climate resilience, gender-energy dynamics, and infrastructure governance in the Global South. Dominant themes include systemic vulnerability frameworks, socio-cultural barriers to sustainability, and policy-relevant solutions for informal settlements.

Leadership & Grants: Dr. Haque leads the Stewarding transitions and transformations to sustainability research group and co-leads the Urbanisation and Health network at York's Interdisciplinary Global Development Centre. She chairs the Departmental Equity and Diversity Committee. Major grants include:
