Dr. Anika Gomille serves as a Junior Professor for Legal Sociology and Legal Gender Studies at the University of Siegen's Faculty of Social Sciences since April 2020. Her position originally focused on legal sociology but acquired a gender partial denomination in November 2021. She received a positive interim evaluation scheduled for April 2025, indicating her continued academic trajectory.
Her educational background includes a Diploma in Sociology from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (2002-2007), an interdisciplinary academic qualification in 'European Migration' (2006-2008), and a Diploma in Law from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and Goethe University Frankfurt am Main (2006-2016), culminating in a doctorate in law from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz's Department of Law and Economics in December 2018.
Dr. Gomille's research focuses on the intersection of gender, law, and criminal justice systems. Her current major project examines gender stereotypes in juvenile prison environments, investigating how gendered distinctions impact everyday prison life and reintegration processes. She approaches legal phenomena through sociological and gender-theoretical lenses, particularly examining how gender relations are established, perpetuated, and challenged within legal frameworks.
As an active member of multiple academic communities, she contributes to the Center for Interdisciplinary Crime Studies (CiCS) at the University of Siegen and holds memberships in the German Sociological Association (Sections of Legal Sociology and Knowledge Sociology), Association for Law and Society, Center for Interdisciplinary Forensics, Competence Network for Radicalization Prevention, Network of criminologists in North Rhine-Westphalia, and Criminological Society.
Within the university, she serves on the Examination Board of Faculty II and the Digital Teaching Competence Team of Faculty III, while also managing the Motherhood and Science Network's Siegen Local Group. Her teaching responsibilities include courses on Legal Gender Studies for Social Work students and previously teaching Legal Sociology, Introduction to Sociology, and Gender Sociology at various institutions including the University of Cologne, University of Siegen, and Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.
