Dr Aniela Wenham is a Senior Lecturer and Deputy Head of Social Policy at the University of York's School for Business and Society. She holds a PhD in Social Policy and has dual affiliations with the Health Sciences and Social Policy departments. Her research focuses on youth transitions, qualitative methods, teenage parenthood, and social class. She has conducted extensive work with vulnerable populations, including young mothers and individuals with autism plus learning disabilities. Alongside her academic role, she serves as a Youth Worker for City of York Council, advocating for socially excluded youth. She is an associate editor of the Journal of Youth and Policy, delivering keynote speeches on teenage motherhood and fostering collaboration between academics and practitioners.
Recent projects include studies on hospital-patient interactions involving problem drug users, sibling experiences of autism, and coastal youth marginalization. She has led or co-investigated ESRC-funded projects on youth policy, housing-first initiatives for care leavers, and gendered risk in deprived areas. Her work bridges academic research with community advocacy, emphasizing participatory methodologies and policy relevance.
Publications span qualitative longitudinal research methods, youth policy analysis, and health interventions. She collaborates internationally, with research outputs addressing both theoretical and applied aspects of youth studies and social policy.
