Dr. Angie Sardina is a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Clemson University and Associate Director of the South Carolina Alzheimer's Disease Research Center. She holds a PhD in Aging Studies from the University of South Florida (2017), an MS in Parks and Recreation Management from UNC Greensboro (2010), and a BS in Health Sciences from Florida Gulf Coast University (2008). Her research focuses on biopsychosocial factors impacting cognitive and physical health in middle-aged and older adults, including social determinants like socioeconomic status and environmental conditions. She develops person-centered health promotion programs targeting diverse populations.
Dr. Sardina’s academic roles include Editorial Board membership for the Journals of Gerontology: Series B and prior service as an Associate Professor at UNC Wilmington. She has contributed to policy initiatives like North Carolina’s Multisector Plan for Aging (Executive Order 280). Notable awards include the 2024 SMART Educator of the Year Award and the 2021 Silver Award from the Mather Institute. Her work spans gerontology, recreation therapy, and interventions for neurocognitive disorders.
Her research portfolio includes over 20 peer-reviewed publications (2013–2024), exploring topics like leisure constraints, life purpose, and technology-assisted interventions. She advises numerous student researchers and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams at the Institute for Engaged Aging. Dr. Sardina’s teaching includes courses on interprofessional research methods, geriatric recreation therapy, and study abroad programs in Norway.
Her professional service includes leadership roles in organizations like LeadingAge and the Gerontological Society of America. Current initiatives focus on age-friendly community design, reducing health inequities, and advancing evidence-based practices in aging research and care.
