معرفی
Professor Angelos M. Efstathiou is a distinguished faculty member in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Cyprus, where he has served as Professor since 2008, following positions as Associate Professor (2002-2008) and Assistant Professor (1997-2002). He also served as Associate Dean of the School of Natural and Applied Sciences from 2011-2014.
Professor Efstathiou received his academic training at the National Technical University of Athens (Diploma, 1981) and the University of Connecticut (M.Sc., 1985; Ph.D., 1989), followed by postdoctoral research at the University of Connecticut and the University of Patras. He established the Heterogeneous Catalysis Laboratory (HCL) at the University of Cyprus in 1997, pioneering catalytic chemistry research in Cyprus.
His research focuses on heterogeneous catalysis, particularly environmental applications including NOx reduction, CO2 capture, and catalytic hydrogen production. He specializes in advanced operando methodologies like DRIFTS-MS and UV-vis-MS combined with transient isotopic techniques to study reaction mechanisms under real conditions. His laboratory investigates various catalytic reactions including water-gas shift, dry reforming of methane, Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, and selective catalytic reduction.
Professor Efstathiou has published over 170 papers in high-impact journals, accumulating more than 7,390 citations on Scopus and 9,200 on Google Scholar, with h-indices of 52 and 58 respectively. His recent publications (2021-2023) demonstrate continued productivity in top catalysis journals like Applied Catalysis B: Environmental, ACS Catalysis, and Catalysis Communications, with research spanning CO2 capture technologies, NOx reduction mechanisms, and advanced catalyst design.
Among his notable recognitions are:
- CATSA (Catalysis Society of South Africa) Eminent Visiting Award (2019)
- Royal Award for Sustainable Technology Transfer from COPENMIND (2008)
Professor Efstathiou actively mentors graduate students and has trained Cyprus's first PhD scientists in catalytic chemistry. He serves as Editor of Catalysis Communications and on the editorial boards of several major catalysis journals including Applied Catalysis B: Environmental. His laboratory provides extensive opportunities for students to work with advanced catalytic characterization techniques and participate in international collaborations.
The Heterogeneous Catalysis Laboratory (HCL) he founded in 1997 continues to be a leading research center in catalysis within the Mediterranean region, with strong international connections and a focus on environmentally relevant catalytic processes.
