Angelika Poferl is a Professor of General Sociology at the TU Dortmund University, Faculty of Social Sciences, since 2016. She previously held roles at the University of Applied Sciences Fulda (2010-2016) and Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich (1996-2010). Her research focuses on theories of modernity and globalization, sociology of knowledge, human rights, gender studies, nature/culture relations, and interpretive social research. She is a leading figure in cosmopolitical sociology and reflexive modernization theory.

Research Themes include cosmopolitics of the social, plural modernities, knowledge cultures, human dignity, gender-nature intersections, and global/local dynamics. Her work bridges macro-level societal transformations with micro-level everyday practices.
Academic Leadership involves editorial roles in book series like Wissenskulturen and Qualitative Sozialforschung, and board memberships in the German Sociological Association (DGS) sections on Knowledge Sociology and Gender Studies. She mentors young scholars and reviews for journals and funding bodies.
