Angelika Levi

Angelika Levi is a Professor of Film (50%) in the Department of Art at the Hochschule für Gestaltung (HfG) Offenbach, a university of art and design in Germany. She has been active since 1985, presenting her experimental and documentary films internationally at festivals, exhibitions, and on television. Her work is distributed by Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art.

Her research and artistic practice focus on memory, identity, montage, and social resistance. Key themes include Jewish film heritage, autobiographical storytelling, and the intersection of personal and collective history. She has contributed to interdisciplinary projects such as the DFG-funded Jewish Film Heritage initiative, where she lectured on memory in montage.

Her recent and notable films — including Ahorita Frames (2021), Children of Srikandi (2012), and My Life Part 2 (2003) — reflect a consistent engagement with marginalized narratives, political resistance, and cultural memory. These works span diverse geographical and cultural contexts, from Indonesia to Latin America and Germany.

Levi has received multiple awards, including the Hamburg No-Budget Video Prize and accolades at the Berlin International Film Festival. Her films have premiered in prestigious sections such as Forum and Panorama.
