Angela X. Wu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Media, Culture and Communication at New York University. She is also a Faculty Associate at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University. Her research focuses on infrastructures and politics of knowledge production, combining humanities and social science methods such as oral histories, archival research, and quantitative analyses of digital traces.
Her current work examines how public culture is shaped by systems thinking, as explored in her forthcoming book Mass Speech Administration: From the Socialist Press to Platform Atmospherics. This project bridges media governance under socialist systems and modern platform capitalism. Angela's interdisciplinary research intersects media studies, technology studies, and China studies, challenging reductive frameworks in analyzing media-politics dynamics in China.
Her past scholarship includes analyses of media use patterns in technological environments and critiques of the oppression-resistance binary in Chinese media discourse. She actively engages with computational methods to study audience analytics and digital media ecosystems.
